Is Vauz really free to download?

Yes. The download is free, and every feature is free during the Vauz 2 beta, which ends on 31 December 2026. After it, the Plus and Premium features come with those plans.

Can I migrate my passwords from LastPass or 1Password to Vauz?

Not in the beta yet. The Vauz 2 beta imports its own export files and CXF files, the Credential Exchange Format some password managers can export. It can't read LastPass's or 1Password's own export files yet, and it never reads another product's vault directly.

Can Vauz 2 open my Vauz 1.x vault?

Not yet. Vauz 2 can't open a Vauz 1.x vault, and it can't import a file exported from Vauz 1.x yet. The beta replaces Vauz 1.x on your Mac, so export your logins from Vauz 1.x first, with Encrypt files on, and keep the file and its password somewhere safe.

Verify your download

Every Vauz release is signed with our minisign key. Verifying takes two steps: first confirm the checksum file really came from us, then confirm your download matches it. Both steps are needed — a valid signature says nothing about the file you actually downloaded.

Open Terminal, install minisign (once)

brew install minisign
Save SHA256SUMS and SHA256SUMS.minisig next to the installer, then check the signature

Expect Signature and comment signature verified, followed by a trusted comment naming the release.
Check the installer against the verified checksums

Expect a line ending in : OK for the file you downloaded. Anything else means it is incomplete or has been altered — do not open it. Lines about files you did not download are reported as missing and can be ignored.

Before you install

It takes Vauz 1.x's place in Applications, since macOS sees the two as the same app

Export your 1.x logins first

Vauz 2 can't open 1.x vaults yet. Export with Encrypt files on and keep the file safe

Open it from Applications

Drag it to Applications first. From the disk image it can't update or autofill
